Dreamhour | India
Dreamhour is the synthpop project of Siliguri based music producer and songwriter, Debojyoti Sanyal. It has been in the making since 2012 when a then-17-year-old Sanyal started releasing a string of synth-centric recordings from his storeroom-turned-makeshift studio in Siliguri under the alias. This was followed by collaborations including the song Dead V with Swedish producer Nightcall and more. October 2016, Sanyal released the EP ‘The Unfinished Story of the UnknownBand’ through NewRetroWave Records. Rolling Stone India called it ‘pop that has one foot in the future and one in the past…. a throwback to the well-paced, moody pop of the Eighties’. July 2018, Dreamhour's debut album VLLNS was released through New Retrowave Records. VLLNS has successfully made it to VICE India’s Year-end mixtape and best-of-2018 lists by Wild City, Beehype, metal.de and The Indian Music Diaries. Bangin Beats called it ‘one of the most ambitious albums to come out of the Indian sub-continent in recent times.’ 2020, Dreamhour releases his latest album PROPSTVR. This record has been Sanyal’s way of trying to get comfortable with the fact that he’s already in his mid-20s and still not the ‘international star’ he imagined himself to become, as a kid. “Just millenial things,” he adds. Musically, PROPSTVR further explores the sound of 80s inspired synthpop meets Bollywood with modern pop sensibilities.
