Maya Oliva | Belgium
Maya Olivia is a performer, dance artist and choreographer based in Brussels, Belgium. She was born in Montréal, Canada, and raised in Florence, Italy, where she trained at Balletto di Toscana and Opus Ballet. At sixteen began traveling and studying in New York (Martha Graham, Alvin Ailey, Shen Wei), London (The Place), Milan (Music, Arts & Show), and finally Brussels, where she graduated from P.A.R.T.S. in 2016.
Maya worked with Balletto di Torino and in the piece “13 Objects” Camilla Monga. She performed “Caverna das Borboletas,” a solo by Ricardo Ambrozio of Ultima Vez in Portugal, and “The Man Who Wasn’t There,” performed in Edmonton Fringe Festival in Canada.
Recently, in collaboration with Karoliina Loimaala, she choreographed “With a Pair of Dirty Gloves”. It was selected to be included in the NEU NOW Festival in Amsterdam in 2016.
Aside from her performance and choreography, Maya has produced multiple installments of “Nocturne,” a multi-disciplinary, multi-faceted, 12-hour arts jam, to promote interconnectedness and facilitate inspiration within the Brussels and New York arts community at large.
